Description: Polychrome wooden sculpture depicting San Rocco with the dog, the saint is represented kneeling while praying with the dog and the pilgrim's hat at his side The refinement of the carving, the various polychromies and forged nails place this sculpture in the second half of the 18th century Provenance: France (1730/50) The story tells: that while the saint was lying dying in a cave a Breton dog who had noticed him helped him to heal by bringing him a piece of bread stolen from the table of his rich master every day. His sensitive gesture made the miracle and San Rocco unexpectedly recovered after a few days. Measurements: 40x50 H 78cm.
